East Greenland has some of the most amazing geology to be found anywhere in the world. With 3 billion years of history an almost complete sedimentary sequence of the last 1.5 billion years, many of the most important stories of Earth's history can be found here.  From the formation of the continents, the colonization of the land, the evolution of amphibians and even dinosaur fossils. On top of this east Greenland has incredible glaciers, icebergs and sea ice, an Inuit communities and wildlife.

Svalbard has often been described a a 'mecca' for geologists. This is because it can all be seen in front of you! A continual sequence of rocks stretching back for the last 1.5 billion years is found in the achipeligo and because it is the Arctic, the rock is not vegetated so it can all be seen. On top of this Svalbard has amazing glaciers and wildlife.

Jan Mayen is the world's most northern volcano, it lies on its  own submerged micro continent on the mid Atlantic Ridge, north of Iceland. It is an extremely hard place to get to. On this trip it is possible to sail from Scotland to Svalbard and visit the elusive Jan Mayen, with glaciers flowing out of the crater to the sea. It is one of the most amazingly beautiful places anywhere, and on this trip there is a reasonable chance of seeing the very rare Blue Whale.

It is part of the mid Atlantic ridge that breaks the ocean's surface. It contains many active volcanoes and it is literally possible to see the plate boundaries.
